Mentoring

The BioAngels members who have invested in the company (investor members) agree at the outset who of them will be the lead mentor. This person will be supported by the other investor members as required.

The lead mentor will facilitate access to other BioAngels members for expertise outside his or her experience.  If such inputs are not from investor members, this may involve the engagement of consultants.

The lead mentor will spend considerable time assisting the investee company.  In recognition of this time commitment and the capital contribution from the investor members, it is expected that the lead mentor will be appointed to the company’s Board as a Director.

As a director of the company, expertise provided to the company will vary with the development stage of the investee company and may include:

  • in-licensing and out-licensing
  • effective project management
  • working effectively to achieve milestones
  • preparation of grant applications
  • linking financial goals to milestone
  • management reporting
  • legal and regulatory matters
  • intellectual property protection
  • manufacturing and marketing experiences

It is likely that the lead mentor will have access to the investee company’s share option scheme especially if the mentoring contributions are substantial.
